Why is Taylor Guitar the Popular Brand for Young American Musicians? - Shopping - Electronics

Why would you think of Taylor guitars to be popular among the young generation of artists? The guitar brand itself is very young and only founded in the mid seventies by three friends and co workers at a guitar repair store: Kurt Listug, Bob Taylor and Steve Schemmer. When they bought out their boss and established their own business the new owners decided that Taylor sounded most American as a name and so "Taylor Guitars" was born. Since then artistes like Tommie Kessler of Blondie, Josh Farro, Taylor Swift, John Denver, Sting, Paul Simon, Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins, John Mayer and a host of talented musicians and singers have used Taylor guitars in their bands or solo acts. Available in acoustic models, this guitar has some design features that make it a favorite among current artists. Made with a patented bolt-on neck from January 1999, the new technology (NT) of the guitar uses a continuous piece of wood all the way to the 19th fret to support the fretboard. Before 1999 the Taylor guitar had a simpler bolt on neck. The bolt on, low profile necks of earlier models were easy to repair and were made in several different widths. The NT technology was a hit with guitarists and the new designed product was named "Product of the Year" by Music Trades magazine.

The small venture that began in 1974 is presently one of the world's most successful manufacturers of acoustic guitars. In 1983 the duo of Taylor and Listug bought out their third partner. The company presently produces around 40,000 instruments a year for the mid price and high end market. The range in size starts from the three quarter size "Baby Taylor" selling for under $500, to full size models that can retail from anywhere between $1200 to over $10,000.

Pop musician Prince was one of the stars who gave the Taylor guitar brand their much needed boost in 1984 when he ordered purple customized instruments for his album "Purple Rain". Billy Idol and Bonnie Raitt also had customized instruments made for them. Later on famous artistes like Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and Eric Clapton also acquired their own Taylor models. Three decades in the business has seen the rise of Taylor brand to one of the leading makers of acoustic guitars in the world. Their USP is the quality and technical innovation that has made guitar connoisseurs and ordinary folks alike value the instruments and prize their clear tone and ease to use.
