Guitar Humidifier Reviews - Entertainment - Music

Dampit

One of the first Guitar Humidifiers that I had purchased for my guitars was produced by Dampit. Not only is this an compelling little device it is pretty care-free too. Using the device is as easy as sticking it through the sound-hole when the guitar is in its case, and applying the plastic sound-hole cover to seal in the humidity. I chose not to bother with the plastic cover though.

A few things you ought to be aware of when charging the humidifier with water. After you fill it, make sure you wring it out or shake out the extra water so you won't risk staining the inside of the unfinished guitar. You will get the directions for implementing this packaged with the unit. As there are many more pricey and elaborate guitar humidifier systems on the market, if you are looking for a simple, no hassles and low-priced way to eliminate humidity related guitar repairs, pick up a few of these outstanding little humidifiers.

Dislikes: The supplied humidity measurement system is not very accurate. Since it tends to me somewhat inaccurate, you obtain a false feeling of security. About the best way to do this is with a good hydrometer that is placed in your guitar case such as the Oasis OS-2.

The Guitar Humidifier by Planet Waves

This too is a very simple system where you fill the included plastic syringe with water and drip it into the sponge material that is in the humidifier. To prevent leaking or dripping into your guitar you have to exercise caution not to overfill the reservoir of the unit. This humidifier will supply moist air to your entire case and expose all parts of your guitar to humidity.

Dislikes: I became irritated with the amount of time it takes to load the sponge just a few drops at a time. Also stuffing this humidifier between the strings is a bit inconvenient and can even throw off the guitar tuning just a bit. Also with this as many other systems, there is not a reliable method (or any) for checking the humidity levels.

The Guitar Humidifier by Herco

This humidifier was recommended to me by a violin luthier friend of mine that he used with all his hand made violins. Since this humidifier is quite small you tuck it into any corner of your case without problem. It is water absorbent clay in a plastic container. Since they are so small, I typically use 2 of them for a larger instrument such as an acoustic guitar or a classical guitar.

It is good to know that since it does not come with any directions, the best way to charge it with water is to dump it into a water filled cup or jar and let it set for a minimum of five minutes. After wiping it off, just pop it into your case and let it go to work. This needs to be repeated every few days. You will get that it won't leak and it will keep your instruments humidifier very nicely.

Dislikes: Likewise, this system does not have a humidity monitoring system (hydrometer) and you absolutely need this to know the relative humidity levels of your instrument atmosphere.

Oasis OH-6 Case Humidifier with OH-2 Digital Hygrometer

The Oasis OH-6 and OH-2 is the only guitar humidifier here that is a combined system that will give you the ideal combination to keep the humidity in check within your guitar case. Ideal humidity levels for your fragile instruments is between 30% and 40% and this is a known fact. This in-case system will deliver even and consistent humidity level uniformly throughout the case, which means all parts of your guitar will be given compulsory moisture when in dry environments. The guitar humidifier with enclosed clip permits various placements within the guitar case. When you combine this versatile humidifier with the OH-2 digital Hydrometer, you have a combination that is very difficult to beat. I absolutely love this system and haven't had a problem with it or any of my very valuable instruments since using it.

Dislikes: I have no dislikes.
