Electric guitar in the choice of some of the problems encountered - Entertainment - Music

In life many people will have views of paranoia, even the closest of friends together to discuss love, remember last night me and my sister to discuss a book a time, almost fight, because the view is not the same, A band between some of the things will have happened soThey don't make 'me like they used to." I think we've heard that enough in life, yeah? The fact is, they don't--they make 'me better. That's why I can pick up a new Epiphone Les Paul Standard and not feel or hear a whole lot of difference between it and my '71 Gibson Les Paul Custom. (Truth be told, electric guitars don't improve with age as violins do.) Certainly there are differences in terms of wood grade, trim, hardware, and such, but do I feel or hear thousands of dollars worth of difference? Sorry Gibson, not really. Lucky for us, Les Paul himself has placed his seal of approval on these Epiphone Les Pauls, and between you and me, protect your ears, 'cause this is a deal that's screaming' at the top of its lungs.

At the EpicenterLet's talk about the instrument itself. With the debacle of the Norlina-owned Epiphone days well behind us, a lot has changed in the world of guitars. Where guitars made by Asian manufacturers used to have a stigma associated with them, nowadays, their craftsmanship and knowledge of lathery ranks among the best you'll find anywhere. Of course, that has everything to do with receiving the guidance of top lathers from the USA--such as those you'll find at Epiphone's factory in Asia, where these LP Standards are made under their supervision.

That said, taking the Epiphone Standard Plain Top out of the case provoked the appropriate, "Yup, this is a Paul all right," response. The looks, the weight, the feel, and the craftsmanship certainly said "Les Paul" to me. I never had the feeling that I was holding a cheap (or should I say, inexpensive) guitar. From the Les Paul headstock signature and trapezoidal inlays on the neck to the fit and finish of the chrome-plated hardware, the only dead giveaways that it's not a Gibson LP are the shape of the headstock and the name, "Epiphone."

If it looks like a Les Paul . . .While I was given three Les Pails to play with, the focus model for this go-round had the heritage cherry sunburst finish with a beautiful flamed maple top. Quite a pretty guitar I must say. It's actually a maple veneer over a carved top, which is how they keep costs down while still providing the super-hot visuals. Trust me, the way the lights on stage shine on this beauty, no one will ever know. In fact, while it sat on a stand in my studio, at every glance it looked like I had a very pricey instrument sitting there.

The other two were Standards, one with a vintage sunburst finish and the other an ebony finish, which was particularly striking (what can I say; I'm a big fan of that black, mirror-like finish). Again, the looks were all there, and more notably, they were very consistent in terms of build quality. As a side note, these guitars were picked off the shelf at random, sight unseen.

As far as appointments are concerned, the theme is understated elegance. The neck and body are outlined with cream binding, simple and straightforward in design and precisely laid in place. I didn't see any of the black filler that is commonly used to hide inlay imperfections. Quite simply, these are beautiful-looking, well-crafted guitars.

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top Electric Guitar . . . feels like a Les Paul . . .Switching back and forth between my Gibson LP Custom and the Epiphone Standard did reveal some differences in terms of weight and a certain X-factor that the Custom possesses. Still, the Standard's body is also solid mahogany, a wood known for its warmth, rich midrange, and singing upper register. Moving up to the neck, I particularly liked its thinner Slim-Taper shape that made it much easier to get around on. The frets are substantial enough to allow easy string bending and don't behave like 22 speed bumps, so fast soloing and chord changes are not a problem. The Grover tuning pegs worked with authority and without all the back-and-forth micro nanometer adjustments that plague budget machine heads. Intonation was spot-on all the way up the neck, and the guitar held its tune, due to the new Lock Tone Tune-o-mastic stop bar bridge, which also improves sustain and makes string changes a br eeze. Cost cutting and simplicity of design aside, it feels like a quality instrument--like a Les Paul.

and sounds like a Les Paul . . .I'm the first to admit that I may not possess the rarified sensibilities of certain battery-sniffing tone-freaks who shall remain nameless (if we mere mortals can get a few minutes alone at their tombstones with a sandblaster), but I do know what a Les Paul is supposed to sound like.

What initially impressed me about the Standards was their unplugged sound, which is quite resonant and almost piano-like. Kicking in the electronics, which comprise two Alnico Classic hum bucking pickups based on Gibson's '57 Classic pickups, they did everything you'd expect from a Les Paul as played through a Marshall DSL100 and 1960A cab--the only exception being the bridge pickup that sounded a tad brighter than my '71 Custom. But as far as the range of tones goes, it's all there; the crunch, growl, sustain, and that thick, round jazz tone above the 12th fret when you turn the neck position pickup's tone control all the way down. Like I said, I know what a Les Paul should sound like, and the Epiphone Les Paul plus Top did not disappoint.

it is a Les Paul! This is a whole lot of guitar for the money. Quite honestly, I can't figure out how they can pack so much value into one instrument.

With the Epiphone Les Paul Standard, anyone can have a quality instrument that will carry them right through to the pros. If you're like me, someone who can't gig without their Paul, but don't want to risk a mega-buck collector's item or that Custom Shop beauty on the road, here's your perfect solution. You can have your Paul and play it too! The playability, look, and feel of this guitar are everything you'd expect from a Les Paul, plus a whole lot easier on the wallet. If you are a guitars lover, visit the site, / Here you can provide will give you what you want

So what is exactly the meaning of playing the guitar to relax?Play an instrument of " easing " refers to the right of selecting the action and every action is done under conscious, so the use as much force to press the strings, elastic strings, how much, never waste a minute of effort. To the left Hand, most of them playing the guitar is played with Tiger and finger strength, thumb to combat forces of the other four fingers on the finger Board, the Tiger must be continued. So the fingers alone and from the small number of muscles To complete the whole one - hour concert repertoire, the result is doomed to fail painfully. The acoustic guitar uses wood for its body and the type of wood used and how it is used play a big role in the quality of the sound it produces. The top, sides, back and the fret board must use a perfect combination of woods to make a good acoustic guitar. Mahogany, Koa, Brazilian Rosewood, Indian Rosewood, Sitka Spruce, Red Spruce, Maple, Alder, Poplar, Basswood and Ebony are used in manufacturing acoustic guitars.

A good acoustic guitar is composed of real wood in a complementary combination. One of the best ways to see how the sound works on different combinations of wood is to play each guitar you are interested in. Play a few chords up and down the fret board. Test whether the guitar stays in tune and its intonation. If you play the guitar in an amp room, it will give you a clear indication as to what the guitar actually sounds like. The guitar you buy should also feel right. Handle a few to see what fits in your arms comfortably. When it comes to acoustic guitars, there are several types. Acoustic-electric guitar is a popular acoustic type, which uses various pickups for electrical amplification.

The style of the body of the guitar determines what sort of strings is chosen for it. The dreadnought style guitars use medium gauge strings and grand auditorium guitars use light gauge strings. If you are a beginner, you might want to use light strings. Fingerpicking is easier on light strings. If you are a heavy handed strummer, then medium strings are ideal for your acoustic guitar. Another option you have with strings is a light-medium string guitar, which is perfect for both fingerpicking and strumming. These include three light gauge strings and three medium gauge strings. Medium strings have a more bass sound that is deeper and bolder. The light strings also stand out with a higher accent and a brighter sound. Therefore, you need to have a good idea about the sort of sound you are looking for.

Review Of The Martin D16GT From A Real Owner - Shopping

I bought my Martin D16GT from Guitar Center over three years ago. This was the last year that this model came with a rosewood bridge and fretboard before the integration of the micarta laminate. I was playing for about a year and did not know the first thing about a good guitar only that I needed a new one. I did know about the reputation of Martin guitars and I tested out all of the models that were less than $1300 dollars. I liked the Martin D16GT best.

I do love the tone of this guitar and I think that it is an excellent guitar for strumming. The volume that is produced with aggressive strumming is nice. It is a simple guitar and looks and plays beautifully. I had it set up for perfect playability and it has never failed me. It is one of the best guitars for the price range that does not rely on cosmetics.

It is OK sometimes to go for the fancy stuff and using a set of 12s gives good volume for delicate music. I play my share of jazz and I feel that this guitar is not the best for lead soloing or finger style guitar and is must better suited for rhythm and comping. This is likely due to the arch top style and is unlike the sound of dreadnoughts. I put in a Martin gold plus pickup to boost the volume and the sound is brought out much better. A cutaway would be nice, but you get what you pay for with Martin guitars.

I read a review where someone heard from an experienced shop owner that yellowing around the neck and bridge was a sign that the bridge was coming up. It is apparently due to the underneath bracing. I noticed the same problem on my Martin D16GT. Luckily I had a good luthier where I live. He said that this is due to the dye being extracted from the rosewood and that this is just a cosmetic problem. The problem is caused if the guitar becomes too hot like when left inside of a car. I do not want to say that I am right and his information is wrong, but nothing can take away from the playability and quality of this guitar. It is absolutely fantastic.

This is an excellent guitar for the money. I think it is a great guitar for country, acoustic rock and folk music. The sound is awesome and it looks good to me when I play it.

The Martin D16GT is nothing fancy, but the quality of the tone is great and it is very easy to play. You can use Martin light gauge strings with no volume loss. The mahogany sides and back give this guitar great tone in any type of room. I can only imagine what the volume of this guitar will be like in the future after it ages.

How to Know when to Change Your Guitar Strings - Entertainment - Music

So how do you know when it is time to change the strings on your acoustic or electric guitar?

Here's how it works:

The life of your strings will vary depending on how you treat them. A guitar played 2 hours a week will keep it's strings longer than a guitar played 2 hours a day. Dirty hands will kill strings quickly, so it's always a good idea to wash your hands before you pick up your guitar. Sweaty hands will shorten your strings' life, too, but this can be unavoidable. Heavy hands will wear strings out quicker than light ones. Humidity can cause metal strings to corrode at a quicker rate.

Dirt and oil from your hands end up on your guitar strings. This causes the strings to corrode over time. The guitar will begin sounding dull or even lifeless. It will start to play out of tune, no matter how much you try tune it, and will be nearly impossible to tune. We all know an out of tune guitar is no fun!

There are a few telltale signs that guitar strings will show when they're ready to be changed. If they look dirty, they need to go. The dirt you see (and quite a bit that you can't see) will drastically change the performance of the guitar strings.

If you're having a hard time tuning them, cut them loose. You're probably having a hard time getting them in tune because of corrosion or dirt build-up.

If you haven't changed them in a few months (and you play regularly), treat yourself to some fresh strings. Usually by the time you're thinking about changing your strings, it's time to change them.

As your strings age, it can be common (especially for beginners) to wonder what's wrong with your guitar. The guitar will feel like it has less energy than it did, and moving up and down the fretboard will not feel as smooth. All these things can make playing a lot less fun, so go ahead and change those strings! It's the single most effective and inexpensive way to put some new life into your guitar.

Also, if you've bought a new guitar, especially from a larger guitar shop, you may want to replace the strings. Just think of how many dirty hands picked up and played that guitar before you bought it!

If you've never changed your strings before, YouTube has some great instructional videos so check them out. Even if you use a luthier or professional guitar tech for all of your other guitar maintenance, it's important to be able to restring your guitar.

Guitar Necks and Truss Rods: How They are Made and What to Adjust - Other

Do you feel like your guitar isn't playing as easily as it did?

Is your string action higher than it should be towards the middle of your fretboard?

Do the strings touch or buzz at high parts of your fretboard when you're playing in the lower registers?

All the above issues are likely to deal with neck relief - the amount of curvature in your guitar's neck.A little concave relief (the neck appears to dip very slightly as you look down the neck) is good for the guitar's playability. It allows for lower action and ease of playingA lot of relief (down-bow), on the other hand, can be harmful. It causes the guitar to feel harder to play, can make the guitar sound slightly out of tune, and can cause the neck to warp over time.A perfectly straight neck will often cause buzzing, or require action to be raised at the bridge, which is bad for playability.A convex neck (up-bow) will be unplayable in the lower registers. This happens because the strings will contact higher frets and not produce sound. This is called "fretting-out."

Here's how the guitar neck works:Your guitar's neck is made of a few pieces. These pieces are the neck itself (wood), the fretboard (wood), and the adjustable truss rod (steel or composite). When a neck is first made, it is relatively straight. When the guitar is first strung, string tension creates a small, favorable down-bow in the neck. As the guitar ages, time, climate changes, heavy playing, and tension from the guitar's strings can cause the wood to bend, creating a concave or convex bow in your guitar's neck. This is where the truss rod comes in.

The truss rod is an adjustable rod that runs down the center of the neck, under the fretboard. The truss rod counteracts exterior forces that cause your guitar's neck to bend over time. It is typically adjustable with an allen wrench, with one direction correcting up-bow, and the other direction correcting back-bow. Truss rods are usually accessible from one of two places: Some guitars have truss rod access at the top of the neck (usually under a cap on the faceplate), while other guitars have truss rod access on the bridge side of the neck (usually in the body of an acoustic guitar or under the pickguard on an electric guitar).

So, now that you know the parts of the guitar's neck, this is the best way to look at your guitar when evaluating neck relief:

*Before you get started, realize that making adjustments to your truss rod can cause damage to your guitar. Do not attempt to adjust your truss rod if you are unsure of what you're doing. If you're unsure, take the guitar to a professional. Luthiers and Guitar Techs do these kinds of adjustments all the time, at affordable rates.

Lay your guitar on a safe, flat surface where it will not move or fall

With your head at the nut-side of the neck, close one eye sight down the side of the neck.

As you sight down the neck, look for curvature in the wood. Evaluate the wood, not the frets.

Move your head to the other side of the nut and repeat. Hopefully, the curvature will be the same on both sides. If the curvature is different on each sight-line, your neck may be warped. Do not attempt to adjust the truss rod if this is the case! You could further damage the neck, take it to a professional.

Determine how your truss rod works: check the specs of adjusting your truss rod on the Manufacturer's website.

Once you what direction to adjust your truss rod, take it slowly. Never turn your wrench more than 30 degrees at a time, small adjustments can have a major impact.

Give the guitar a moment to rest, then re-evaluate it. Pick it up and see how it's playing. Take your time with it and repeat the steps if necessary.

Hopefully this has been helpful to you in understanding neck relief. Please also realize that there are many other things that factor into the guitar's playabilityfret height and evenness, nut height, bridge height and intonation that are beyond the scope of this writing.

Happy playing!

The History of the Electric Guitar - Entertainment - Music

When most people think of electric guitars, they think of rock music. But electric guitars are more versatile than you'd think. You can find them in jazz, blues, country music, New-Age compositions, and even contemporary classical pieces. Electric guitars are intimately associated with many famous musicians of the twentieth century "and may be the iconic musical instrument of our time.

The demand for electric guitars came during the Big Band Era in the 20's and 30's. The big brass bands of the time were very loud, and other instruments had to be artificially amplified to stand up to their powerful sound. Performers experimented with attaching microphones to acoustic guitars. The first manufactured electric guitars were made in 1931 by the Electro String Instrument Corporation.

The first time an electric guitar is known to have been used in performance was in 1932. Bandleader Gage Brewer of Wichita, Kansas, received two electric guitars directly through Electro String Instruments, possibly for publicity purposes. Brewer wrote about the guitars in an article in the Wichita Beacon before the performance.

The earliest known recording of an electric guitar performance was produced in 1938. George Barnes, a jazz guitarist, recorded two songs with the guitar, called "It's a Lowdown Dirty Shame" and "Sweetheart Land."

The earliest electric guitars were essentially hollow-bodied acoustic guitars equipped with Tungsten pickups. The problem with hollow-body electric guitars is that the hollow space within the guitar produces vibrations when the strings are plucked or strummed. These vibrations account for the unique tone of an acoustic guitar, but they produce harsh feedback when they interact with the pickups in an electric guitar. Early electric guitar players used to stuff rags and newspapers into their hollow-body instruments in an attempt to get rid of the feedback.

One of the earlier solid-body guitars was an aluminium instrument known as the "Frying Pan" or "Pancake Guitar." These guitars were said to have produced a sound similar to that of modern electric guitars.

Several other well-known luthiers experimented with solid-body guitars during the early history of the electric guitar. In 1940, during his time at Gibson Guitars, Les Paul attempted a solid-body instrument called the "log guitar," so called because it was a simple post equipped with neck, strings, and pickups.

The electric guitar did not hit commercial success until the 1950's, when Fender released its first solid-body model: the Esquire. The Esquire was followed by the Telecaster and finally, in 1954, the Stratocaster. The "Strat" was hailed in professional musical and luthier circles alike, and became a signature instrument of such famous musicians as Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and many others.

The electric guitar produced an aggressive sound very different from the melodic and lyrical tones of its ancestor, the acoustic. The sound of the electric guitar became characteristic of rock and roll in the 60's and 70's. It was a high-profile instrument during this time, appearing on stage with hundreds of famous bands and musicians.

This created demand among the general public for affordable electric guitars. In the 60's and 70's, electric guitars were very expensive "too pricey for a buyer who wasn't a famous musician. Although some companies attempted to fill the gap with cheap imitations, the sound of these guitars did not compare to the real thing.

It wasn't until the 1980's that Japanese manufacturers stepped forward with affordable electric guitars capable of professional-quality sound. This put pressure on American companies such as Gibson and Fender to provide their own affordable lines. Electric guitars became more and more successful in the consumer market as quality improved, and prices went down as new manufacturers entered the market. Soon, electric guitars were more accessible than they had ever been.

Today, the electric guitar is one of the most prolific instruments in popular music. You can find it in a wide variety of genres, from metal to New Age. You can also buy an electric guitar like the rock stars have "without paying the prices they pay. Because it's so common in contemporary music and in the hands of amateur musicians, there's little doubt that the electric guitar is one of the most successful instruments of the twentieth century.

The guitarists death grip - Entertainment - Music

How a cheap guitar can hinder your progress.A common problem with cheaper guitars, especially steel string acoustic guitars, is that the strings are set way too high above the neck, making it very difficult to press the chords. What a beginner guitarist may not realize, is just how much easier the task of training your fingers to play the guitar is on a slightly more expensive guitar that's been worked on by a luthier. The luthier doesn't need to build the guitar, he just has to do a few minor things to it so that it plays nicely. The most important of these is to level and crown the frets. On an acoustic guitar I would take this one step further and have him lower the bridge as well. Acoustic guitars are notorious for having high bridges which make them more of a strain on the hand when pressing chords and notes. I have played some acoustic guitars that where very well set up, but these have been few and far between. The advantages of learning to play on an electric guita r become glaringly obvious to anyone who's tried to learn on a cheap acoustic guitar. Even a relatively cheap electric guitar, somewhere between 100 and 200 dollars, easily outperforms similarly priced acoustic steel stringed guitars. One of the dangers of learning to play on a guitar that requires such extreme finger pressure, is developing what's known as the death grip. This is a bad habit, in fact it's more of a conditioning, that causes the guitarist to clench the guitar neck so tightly and apply too much pressure when fretting notes, that the ability to develop any meaningful degree of speed and dexterity on the guitar is seriously hampered.Sometimes it can be so bad that they pull the guitar strings out of tune.I have a friend who suffers from this condition, and try as I may to get him to lighten his grip on the guitar when playing, he seems unable to do it.

How to deal with guitarists death grip. There's no easy away around this, except to spend some time every day practicing to lighten your grip, and also see to it that the action on your guitar is as low is it can be.If you can't get it any lower, then think about taking it to a guitar builder or repairman and ask them to do what they can.

Buying a guitar for playing flamenco - Entertainment - Music

Do you need a special type of guitar? The simple answer is No!For a beginner, any (nylon stringed) classical guitar will do the job.

2 points of confusion1) Any guitar with steel strings on it is NOT suitable. There was a time when certain styles of Country and Western and jazz guitars were advertised as "Spanish guitars" for some unknown reason. (I think because they have roughly the same shape as a classical / flamenco guitar). If you look hard enough you may even find a few books of the 1920's, 30's, and 40's which have plectrum style music for these "Spanish guitars". The equation seems to be: Flamenco = Spanish music = let's play it on my grandpa's Spanish guitar. Now where did he put those plectrums? Or something like that.

2) Another common misconception is that the bass strings on a classical guitar are steel. On the outside they look the same as their steel brothers but that's where the similarity ends. Classical guitar bass strings have many fine strands of nylon woven together inside the copper winding. If you look closely you will see these strands poking out of the end of the string.

Things to consider1) The action needs to fairly low without producing excessive string buzz.

2) A solid wood top produces a better tone than a factory laminated wood guitar.

3) A tapping plate (golpador) needs to be attached on the top of the guitar. Genuine flamenco instruments already have these but any decent guitar repair shop or Luthier can stick one on for you. Right hand tapping techniques can certainly damage the guitar if this protection is not there.

4) Flamenco guitars are generally lighter in construction. I personally don't like heavy guitars. For me a guitar must feel comfortable and "user friendly". Heavy wood guitars like some classical guitars don't do it for me.

5) When I was learning I bought cheap guitars only. Mainly because I could not afford to pay $500 or more for a expensive hand made guitar by a respected luthier. That doesn't mean a second hand non-flamenco factory made guitar is no good. For example, I think Yamaha makes good beginner classical guitars that are more than suitable for learning flamenco with an attached golpe plate. I was pretty rough on my guitars so I never got precious about an instrument. When my guitar needed replacing, I just visited the local second hand guitar shop and spend an hour trying out different classical style guitars. A guitar does not have to be expensive; it just needs to "speak to me". What I mean is that it needs to feel comfortable and have a strong tone.

6) One consideration that I think is important is whether the strings maintain good tone even if they are fairly worn. This has more to do with the guitar than the strings themselves. That's why trying old guitars in a second hand shop is a good idea if you just want a cheap beginners instrument. I would try those with worn strings first. The problem is that many guitars sound all terrific and sparkly with band new shiny strings but quickly lose their tone after a few days.

German Violins: Why They Sound So Great - Entertainment - Music

Among the most popular old violins are those from the original German luthiers. Some of these more famous makers are Jacob Stainer, Matthias Klotz, Sebastion Klotz, and Leopold Widhalm. This article will take a brief look at the lives of these three German luthiers and their contributions to the world of violins.

Jacob Stainer was born in 1621 and is considered by most to be the greatest of all German violin makers. It is believed that Stainer worked with a member of the Amati family as his violin varnish is very similar to that used by the Amatis. Stainer was a good violinist in his own right which helped him achieve the tone he sought in his violins. In 1669, Stainer was accused of heresy and was asked to recant. He spent time in jail and, when released, was a poor man and could not provide for his family. He died with mental problems in 1683.

Matthias Klotz was born in 1656 and was the founder of violin making in Mittenwald. Klotz's work was influenced by Stainer. The ground on his violins has turned a dark color and the varnish is a yellow color. He died in 1743. Another member of the Klotz family, Sebastian Klotz (1696-1768), is widely considered to be the finest maker in Mittenwald. His son, Joseph Klotz, patterned his violins after those of his father.

Leopold Widhalm was born in Nuremberg in 1722. Widhalm is widely considered one of the best violin makers of his time. He is known for his use of a beautiful, glossy varnish and modeled his violins after the Stainer model. Leopold Widhald died in 1776.

All of the instruments created by the German masters of the era go for a tidy sum. If you are looking for an instrument and find one available in your price range, snap it up! You will not be disappointed with the tone or construction. Further, as long as you take care of the instrument, it will surely increase in value over the years.

Classical guitar is an ideal instrument for learning - News

Everyone loves to hear music in their leisure time and music is created with the help of different musical instruments. Guitar is one of these instruments. There are two types of guitar one of which is chitarra classica, also known as the Spanish guitar or nylon string guitar. Few decades ago as there was only classical music so there were not several alternatives to play music on a guitar. But as the time passed classical guitar lessons thrived because guitar was one the most accessible instrument at that time. And by the time numerous artists began interpreting modern songs on chitarre classiche for example 'black bird' by the Beatles, since its name does not mean that only classical repertoire is performed on it. Whereas all kinds of music can be performed on it like folk, jazz, flamenco etc.

A chitarra classica consist of 6 strings, 3 high strings also identified as treble strings (created of nylon) and three lower strings also known as bass strings made of metal thread, six is a traditional number of strings for a classical guitar. It is generally utilized to play lute music in the original tunings but as I told you above it is also employed to play modern songs. There are 3 principal aspects of guitar creating decorative or visual aspects, playability aspects and sound capabilities. Some guitarists think that shaping of the guitar's wood (during and even right after construction) and actual voicing of the wood is a lot more crucial than the outer construction of itself.

Taking classes on chitarre classiche proved to be beneficial, as when it was noticed that the students who began early with chitarra classica lessons also tend to thrive at school. Some studies also showed that classical music also enhances brain development and the students who exposed to classical music scored greater grades then the students who do not have any exposure at all. Moreover classical guitar proved to be the best instrument for a child to understand. As teaching a child an instrument potentially bring him or her lifetime enrichment and joy, but keeping him or her interested in it is surely a challenge, which classical guitar has full filled. There are numerous factors for this like each and every child is familiar of pop music in which guitar is widely used, which makes the child interested in playing the classical guitar. And he will be quick to brag his or her buddies that he is taking the lessons to understand how to play a guitar. On the other hand it is counted as an extremely romanticized instrument of which you can take the advantage by teaching a child to play a classical guitar, due to the attraction to the popular music.

How to care for your guitar - Entertainment - Music

You've picked out your favorite guitar from the shop. You've brought it home and given it a name. We all have names for our guitars, right? Now you want to learn how to keep your baby in good condition forever.

Think of your guitar like white wine, conditioned properly it'll taste better in 20 years. Follow these tips below and you'll find that the wood aging process will help your guitar sound better than when you purchased it.

Guitar Maintenance 101

The Strings

Taking care of the guitar strings is important. It'll keep your guitar sounding great for months and save you money from purchasing new strings. That being said you should replace your strings before recording music, before live performances (except if you are touring then maybe every few concerts) and anytime when the sound of your guitar seems dull.

To maintain your stings be sure to wipe them down with a cloth after playing. This will remove any oil and debris that has gotten onto the string while playing. There are conditioners you can use but they aren't necessary.

It's also a good idea to wipe down the back of the neck of the guitar at this time.

The fretboard

Maintaining the fretboard can be tricky but your best plan of attack is to clean it when replacing the strings. For this a thorough scrubbing is needed to get the junk out from the crevasses between the frets and the wood surface. Use a damp cloth for this job but be sure to dry out the wood. For this task I recommend a conditioner. It'll help the wood keep the moisture it needs and can provide an extra layer of protection from dirt and grime.

The body of the guitar

This is the easiest part. A simple wipe down of the surface should do you. Every few months it's also a good idea to use a conditioner here as well.

Hardware

On the electric guitar you'll have more to do here then on the acoustic guitar. This first thing for you to do is to make sure all screws, nuts and bolts are tightened. Careful not to over-tighten as this can damage sensitive parts. Your second task is to polish the metallic parts. A wipe with a damp cloth should be enough but you can get metal polish as well. Be sure to test an area first.

Storage

This last maintenance tip is probably the most important but one that many of beginning music students are unaware of. Storage of a guitar can make or brake it's sound. This is because wood is quite sensitive to changes in weather. These tips work well for anyone but are most important for those who live in Northern climates such as Canada because of the extreme weather changes.

Just like white wine in the summer you'll want to keep your guitar in a cool and dry place. Leaving it in the sun is a bad idea. So is leaving it in your car.

The winter is almost the opposite. Keep it in a warm place that is shielded from the elements. You also want to keep the humidity at a consistent level. A good option for this is a sound hole humidifier.

Well, there you have it guitar maintenance 101. You are now ready to rock.

Do Brandnames Matter When Selecting A Guitar? - Entertainment - Music

When purchasing a guitar, it really comes down to what type of sound you would like. You can't just pick one guitar and say it's the one for you. There are variations in wood type and quality, each of which creates a different unique sound. The wood also makes the guitar heavy or light in weight. It depends entirely on the player to choose just how heavy or light they want their guitar being. All these factors go into a player deciding which is the best acoustic guitar on their behalf.

Must be acoustic guitar features a big manufacturer engraved about it, doesn't necessarily ensure it is the best acoustic guitar. Every individual guitar differs, using a unique sound. Don't go guitar shopping with preconceived notions in regards to a particular brand. The biggest brands that are purchased from huge numbers might not be the best choice for you. There's a big range of guitars, and every brand has several guitars in different price ranges available.

Usually purchasing a branded guitar allows the user to resell it at a bargain price if it doesn't work out. It's far better to experiment with a different variety of brands in various price ranges. The priciest guitar may not offer you what you are looking for, so try and decide wisely and don't be seduced by just anyone's opinion.

Unbranded guitars are not usually recommended, however when people try different guitars they realize that some sound better even though they are cheap and unbranded. Such guitars are often produced from good wood. Wood is really a major factor that decides how well the instrument will sound. Unbranded guitars are usually made from plywood, which isn't a great sound projection material in guitars and reduces quickly.

It's a great choice to get a branded guitar when worried about its resale value. Branded guitars provide warranty repairs and part replacements that unbranded ones obviously won't. A most of unbranded guitars are made in Asian countries are carried by many people stores and sold underneath the store manufacturer are cheap making from inferior wood.

Before you go to buy a brand new guitar, it is important to find out about wood qualities, brands and reviews. Try differing types and select usually the one your hand feels at ease with. It generally depends on a person's preference and playing ability which guitar would be best. A branded guitar is most likely an improved choice considering your money, quality, endurance, warranty and resale value. There may be in few situations unbranded cheaper alternatives might sound better but don't feel original.

Just How Much Should You Spend On Your First Guitar? - Entertainment - Music

How to Buy a Used Guitar - Sports

Buying used guitars is a popular thing to do amongst musicians because the instrument sounds better with age. Also, sometimes the old saying is true: they don't just make them like they used to. When buying used, each instrument is unique. This is true not only because of the wear and tear that happens to each guitar differently, but even off the factory the wood is a little different and there are other slight variations. In other words, you can't just buy one from the internet and assume you'll know what you're getting. There are specific things you have to look for and ask when buying a used guitar.

Has it been repaired ever? If so, where and by who? Obviously you'd rather have a guitar that hasn't needed any repairing, but if it's done properly you may be able to live with it. In either case, it'll affect the price for sure, and it's something you need to know. If there was a crack along the neck, this is a big issue! Don't buy it. In fact, most people wouldn't ever try to sell a guitar so badly damaged, at least not without mentioning that up front and taking a lot of money off for the damage. But if it's had minor repair, it won't affect the integrity of the sound. But it will affect retail value of the instrument. When a serious collector buys a used guitar he wants one in pristine condition as possible, even if the damage has no bearing on sound. If you're a playing musician and you want a beautiful guitar for gigs, or just for making beautiful music on, getting a guitar that isn't in mint condition but plays perfectly is a great economic way to buy! So long as i t's a cosmetic issue only and won't change the sound in any way.

There are other concerns. Old guitars get played a lot, usually, and there are signs that indicate that it's been used. One big giveaway is fret damage, especially on the first three frets where people play most frequently. Check under the strings and see how badly the frets have been worn. It'll be a reliable indicator of how much it's been used. Frets that have more wear don't play as well, and this should be avoided. New frets can be placed on the guitar, but this is a headache you don't need. Another question to ask is how much it's been played. Surprisingly, you may want one that's been played more because the vibrations are actually good for the wood. Guitars that sit in a closet get warped and play funny. Nobody likes to be neglected! It's hard to believe that this is true, but it is. This is one of the reasons that guitars have unique personalitiesthey each have their own history.

The warm sounds of an old guitar can't be duplicated in new onesthat's the best reason to buy used. It's worth it, so long as you're patient and you know what you're doing!

Learning To Play A 12 String Yamaha Acoustic Guitar - Art

I own a Yamaha acoustic guitar. I've owned it for over 25 years and it sounds even more beautiful now than when I first bought it. The construction of the guitar is very high quality, the neck has remained quite stable over the years, and the body and top woods have aged very well. I have had to replace some of the frets but that is only because I've played the guitar so much. Of course, I've replaced the strings many times but that is par for the course with guitars because you're always putting your fingers on them.

If you've never played a 12-string guitar, you've got to try it. I recommend using a very light gauge pick for strumming. Finger-picking style playing is quite a bit more difficult due to the string spacing being so close together.

How do I describe the sound of a Yamaha Acoustic Guitar

I don't know if that's even possible, but it might help if I first describe the way the strings are tuned. First off, the high E and B strings are duplicated, then the next four pairs are an octave apart. So the typical D string on a guitar is a wound string that is tuned to a mid-level pitch of G and right next to it is an unwound steel string that is tuned to G one octave higher.

So, those six pairs of strings combine together to create a guitar sound that is much richer, smoother, and fuller than a standard acoustic guitar sound. Think of how a song sounds when only a single person is singing it. And then think of how that same song sounds when several people are singing different notes and pitches (all on key of course!).

I guess another term I could use to describe the sound is that it is "chorused". A "chorused" sound is like I described above, many, many, many people singing the same song or melody, just at different pitches.

Playing the Yamaha acoustic guitar is very similar to playing any standard six string guitar. The chords and the fingerings are the same, the pitches are the same... The tuning is essentially the same with the caveat that the lower-pitched strings have a higher pitched string next to it that matches the note one octave higher.

The classic rock band "The Eagles" often used a 12-string guitar on there recordings. Listen to the opening riff of "Hotel California" - that was played on a 12-string acoustic.

I have recorded many of my own songs using my Yamaha acoustic guitar as the base rhythm guitar. Properly miked up, the sound is rich and full and makes for a beautiful sounding recording.

Overall, I would have to say that Yamaha builds excellent quality musical instruments. I know that they are better known for their motorcycles (at least that is how I first came to know about the company), but motorcycles are not their original line. Just take a look at the company logo: it is three tuning forks laid out to perfectly divide a circle into thirds. If you know anything about music, you'll recognize the circle is representative of the "circle of fifths" and dividing it up into thirds is acknowledging the fact that the third interval from the root note is one of the most influential of the intervals in making a chord sound happy or sad.

In summation, a Yamaha acoustic guitar is a worthy investment for any guitarist whether they be professional level, intermediate, or beginner because they always sound great!
