As a proud owner of the Yamaha Pacifica electric guitar I consider myself well placed to write a review of this truly fantastic instrument. In this article I am going to explain why the Pacifica is not only a brilliant beginner guitar, but is also extremely suitable for more advanced players.
Introduction
Yamaha is a household brand that is synonymous with quality; their product range varies from motorcycles to musical instruments, and many things in between. They are known for producing middle to top of the range gear which is available at reasonable prices.
Their range of guitars suits the beginner through to the advanced player, catering for complete beginners in the form of starter packs right through to advanced, technical players. For this reason, Yamaha is a trusted brand when it comes to buying electric equipment and this includes their guitars.
The Yamaha Pacifica
I have owned and gigged with this guitar for a number of years from when I first bought it back in 2003. The one that I own has a natural wood finish with a solid white scratch plate but it is available in varying colours.
The Pacifica has a humbucker and dual single coil pickups meaning the guitar is capable of producing a variety of really cool sounds from rock through to more blues and jazz licks. For the main part I run it through a distortion pedal which creates a much textured, rocky sound.
To hold, the Pacifica is lightweight and compact, and yet feels a very solid build that plays well. The neck is solid maple and the fret board is rosewood. This makes it long lasting and stunning to look at!
How does it compare in the market?
I have reviewed many guitars over the past year, all of which are aimed at the beginner to intermediate market. I have to admit that the Pacifica is one of the best out there in terms of value for money, construction, playability, design and sound.
There are much cheaper options if you are starting out learning the guitar but the Pacifica will stick with you for years, where cheaper models are often dumped in favour of better instruments after a few months.
Buying the Pacifica
Because this guitar is not a full-on pro model; aimed at the beginner-intermediate market, the Pacifica is also available as part of a guitar package. This means that the beginner can own a market leading guitar at a slightly higher cost than other guitar packages which are considerably inferior.
