You Can Get a Great Guitar Cheap - Entertainment - Music

If you are a guitar slinger, you have probably noticed how inexpensive a lot of guitars are lately. If you are an up-and-coming guitarist who needs to get some equipment, you could be lucky. There was never a greater time to buy an entry-level guitar.

For instance, you can get a replica of a Fender Stratocaster for just about $150 or less. It is named the Fender Squier, and it's a decent guitar. An identical thing goes for a Gibson Les Paul. You can find a knock-off manufactured by Gibson under the Epiphone name for less than $200. That's out of this world, and it is not a chunk of junk -- it's a great guitar, especially for a novice. Epiphone also makes a Gibson SG impersonator for less than $300.

Whenever you think of the many 1000s of dollars it could cost to get the name brand, these guitars are perfect for the wallet. It provides the chance to live with them for a time before you make the large investment in the real thing. Just how do they do it, though?

They take some short cuts that you maybe won't detect, and they are using some less costly wood that has many excellent qualities, specifically, strength and resonance. Unless you are a really practiced player or have already got one of the high-priced models, you probably won't even see any difference in the feel or the tone.

One of the short cuts the manufacturers take is to bolt the neck onto the body rather than to run it through the main part. You probably won't care about that as soon as you play the axe. It will not change the way it plays, and even if it impacts the sound just a little, odds are that you won't notice.

Another way the companies reduce cost is to use agathis for the body. Agathis is a durable wood that has good resonance. It costs the companies less to use it, and you end up the lucky one with an amazing electric guitar that has an incredible sound. If you want a first-rate wood, you pick up the tab for it. If you want a good guitar at a good price, you pay for agathis.

Guitar manufacturers are also able to lower your expenses by making guitars in countries outside of the USA. Guitars made in the U.S. are more likely to be very pricey, but those made in Mexico, China and some other countries, are more affordable for musicians who haven't established that high paying gig, yet.
