Bass Guitars and Amplifiers - Entertainment - Music

In the 1950's, a brilliant musician lover, employed by George Fullerton, started mass producing the electric bass guitar. This person was Leo Fender. Because of Leo Fender's efforts, a lot of guitar makers followed suit and the era of bass playing was born.

Musicians nowadays recognize the importance of bass playing in every music genre. Each genre may require a different style of plucking, but the essence of bass is there - that low and deep rhythm that gives a piece its full flavor. Without the bass guitar, it seems that a musical piece loses a little bit of soul.

Designs of the electric bass guitar vary, from the traditional looking ones, to the more ornately carved personalized designs. Gibson manufactured violin shaped bas guitars in the early days, Luthier, Hohner and Steinberger have designs that does not have heads but instead have the tuning machines on the bridge.

Electric bass guitars are also made of different wood materials. Typically, the body is made of alder but some prefer the body to be made of ovangkol. The neck is usually made of maple but can be done with other types of wood such as wenge. The fretboard, normally made of rosewood can also be made of ebony, depending on the manufacturer, and of course the purchaser. Steinberger also releases electric bass guitars made of graphite.

Finishes from different guitar makers also alternate through lacquer, wax or oil. Bodies could also be carved or flat, depending on the whims of the artist and the artisan. The designs for bass guitars also show extended range; bass guitars are in four, five, or six stringed variations.

The amplification of bass guitars is almost the same as amplification used for the electric lead guitar. Typically, an electric bass guitar player uses a "combo" amplifier, which houses the speaker and the amplifier in a single cabinet. For others, a simple patch cord that connects the guitar to the amp and the speaker suffices.

For a budding musician, it is important to find just the right bass guitar design and a good amplifier system to hone his talents. Bass guitarists do not need the higher priced guitars that most rock stars smash on stage, although that would probably be the ultimate goal. For practice sessions, it would be best to stay within a budget. For all your young musician bass guitar needs and amplifier requirements, you may visit online sites such as Your Bass Guitar.
