Getting Started In Playing The Guitar - Entertainment - Music

It's never too late to learn to play the guitar. No matter what situation you're in or where you're at in life, just pick up the guitar and start learning. Here are some tips to help you get started:

-Guitars

You're going to need a guitar first of all before you can start playing. If you are a beginner and searching for your first guitar, here are a few things to bear in mind in your search:

1. What type of wood- You'll need to pay attention to the type of wood used for a guitar. Mahogany is a heavy variety and maintain longer than woods such as Ash or Alder. One of the drawbacks to a heavy variety is that of course they are heavier than other varieties but can take a toll on your back if standing for any length of time.

2. The Frets- You need to pay attention to the number of frets a guitar has. They come with 21, 22, or 24 frets. The 21 fret variety is more stable that those with 24 frets but if soloing is on your mind then the 24 fret variety is for you.

3. The Strings- You must consider the strings you are going to use. If your going to play on low tunings then consider a heavy gauge. If your into soloing then try a gauge such as 9's so the strings will bend easier

-Songs

When you pick the right guitar you'll need to consider the right song to learn to play your guitar. You should pick something your familiar with and that you love. It should have three or four basic chords with a slow beat.

-Instruction

You'll need something that will show the chords. The chord is the sound made by placing your fingers on the guitar. Your dominant hand does the strumming to give the sound while your other hands uses the fingers on the frets. Most song books show finger positioning for different chords or you can search the internet for that information.

-Practice

You will need to set aside some time to practice if you really want to learn to play the guitar. Usually 30 minutes to an hour a day 3 to 5 times a week is sufficient. Regular practice will help you learn and also help with the right finger position along with finger condition.

These are some tips to get you started to play guitar. With a lot of practice and dedication you can achieve your dream of playing.
