Choosing a bass guitar should be no different than choosing a car. You want it to look great, handle great, sound great and most of all...be durable. All this at a price that makes sense to you. Only you can decide how much you're willing to spend.
There are many models of Ibanez 4 string bass guitar to choose from. One of my favorite classes of bass is the SR Prestige. These models are Japanese made and Ibanez has long been known for their best quality guitars coming out of their Japan factory.
The SR5000E is the specific model from the SR Prestige line that I want to talk about. The body of this masterpiece is made from mahogany, but what makes it look so special is the Wenge wood top that is laminated to the body. The Wenge wood is native to Western Africa and has such a beautiful dark grain that it would be criminal to cover it up with paint. That's why it has a gorgeous oil finish to let the grain show through.
It has a state of the art bridge known as the Mono-Rail IV. This design is specifically a separate bridge for each string, which allows for greater differentiation in tone between each string. I gotta say, I was a little skeptical of that claim until I tried one. I used a smaller amp on a clean channel setting so I could see if there was a difference in tone and without a doubt, there was. Clean and crisp and no vibration interference...quite amazing.
I've played many other Ibanez bass guitars that have the tone shaping EQ like the SR5000E so this wasn't anything new for me. I've always been fond of this Power Curve system and I'm glad that Ibanez continues to build upon it.
The neck is fast and thin as most Ibanez guitar instruments are. But the 5-piece design makes them stronger than ever. Laminating a mix of hard and soft wood eliminates the twisting that 1-piece necks are notorious for.
The sheer beauty of this guitar almost makes me want to put it in a display cabinet and just enjoy looking at it. That would be a shame as this is truly a technological masterpiece and its creator would want it to played and played hard J.
For the money (and its not overly cheap), this bass guitar is well worth it considering what you're getting for your money: great sound, beautiful styling and a quality axe made in a Japanese Ibanez shop.
