Stratocaster guitar setup - Entertainment

Stratocaster Guitar Setup, Pickup, Tremolo and that Buzz

Stratocaster guitar designed by Leo Fender somewhere in mid 50's went on to become his best and most popular design. It was conceived by him as a successor to the Telecaster. Though it was not fancied much during its initial days, it has surely turned out to be the most popular with the guitarist. Stratocaster guitar setup usually involves a lot of expertise and is best left to an experienced luthier.

Before you begin the process of getting the most suitable setup for yourself, it is mandatory that you check the strings of the guitar. Look for any dust, rust, or flat spots. All these indicate that the strings have worn out and need replacement.

Once you have made sure that the strings are fine, concentrate on the pickup. Strat is very temperamental in regard to the height of the pickup, keep the string far away from the fret and you will find the buzz almost intolerable. Similarly, keeping the action low may give you the undesired distortion in pitch.

Adjustment of tremolo depends on the sort of bridge you have. It will take different approach for both floating bridges and the locking bridge. Even in the floating kind, you have four different forms. If it looks a little too complicated, leave it to a professional.

Usually, the single coil pickups are prone to buzzing. Again, this buzz can be counteracted by screening the cavities with adhesive backed aluminum tape. It is a process asking for slightly higher degree of expertise, so until you are supremely confident about yourself it is better for you to not try it.

Apart from the technicalities discussed above, it is absolutely necessary that you treat your guitar with utmost care. Do not leave it in a place where you yourself cannot stay. Strings tend to vary in length, expanding and shrinking, depending on the temperature and humidity. Warm the strings up by strumming a bit before you do the final tuning and for that ultimate Stratocaster guitar setup that you are looking for, you need to have a lot of patience and retune your guitar several times over.
